The Search for the Missing General

Another one of those dreams, where they feel so real, but they can’t be. They all take place in a world so horrible; I don’t know how my mind invented the place. Everyone in it, from monsters to men who really are monsters, obey the orders of one insane woman, Queen Beryl.

A man I vaguely knew was walking in my direction and I tried not to show my fear. The man with long, white hair walked up to me and lifted my face until I looked in his eyes. I was surprised when I noticed that his eyes were the exact same icy color mine were most of the time.

Turning to my mentor he said, "Keep working on her. I want her to finish her training soon. But she still needs refinement."

As he walked away, I was left feeling puzzled by it all…

Not the same dream again! When I woke up it was well before I usually do, even with having nightmares. Why can’t I just dream of good grades, a rich life, and a good-looking husband like everyone else? Why do I have to have dreams about an evil place? Shaking my head at the unfairness of the situation I got out of bed, and got ready for work.

I go to Tokyo University and I’m just starting my third year. Two more years and I’ll be looking for a permanent job. I’ve already got a part-time job that pays pretty well but I’ll need more of an income once I’m out of college. My old school uniform, come to think of it, looks like what I wear in my dreams. Black, piped with silver, nicely-fitting pants and a jacket-like top with a silver or black belt. The only difference is that in my dreams, I have a black cape on with silver lining.

"Weird."

When I finished dressing, I looked at the effect in the mirror. I always wear a white T-shirt with some kind of design on it and loose-fitting jeans. Today I’m wearing a white T-shirt with musical jokes on the back and I have black jeans on. I guess the look is, well, mature, but still my true age, 20 years old.

Taking a look at my watch I curse. If I don’t hurry, I’ll be late on the first day of work. Grabbing my jacket, I rush out of my apartment door, bumping into a guy. Getting up while rubbing my head, I mumble a short apology. "I’m sorry, I was in such a hurry I didn’t see you."

"That’s ok, it happens all the time to me, I should be used to it. I’ve gotta go, I’ll be late for work if I don’t hurry." Getting the strange feeling I’ve seen him before, I hurry off to work and pray that I have to time to get a bite to eat.

Why did I put all of my classes after lunch but before dinner? No classes until the afternoon, no free time until after dinner. I should reschedule my classes so they are more spaced out.

"Why me? In the entire world, WHY ME?!? What did I do wrong to deserve this punishment?" My book-bag was heavy, again. So many textbooks and binders of notes to carry around. "Where did I put my key? Oh, here it is. I really must be tired to have not found it sooner, maybe I should get some sleep."

Walking to my apartment complex, I stopped when I heard footsteps behind me. Turning around I noticed Maxfield Stanton, the richest man in town.

"Excuse me, miss. I couldn’t help but notice your instrument case, do you play?" He asked.

"Yes," I answered, "I play the flute."

"Could I hear you play? I love music but don’t hear it all that often."

"Sure."

Taking out my flute, careful not to damage it, I assembled my instrument. "What would you like to hear?" I asked him.

"Do you compose?" after my nod of affirmation he continued, "Why not play something you wrote?"

"It’s your ears." Putting the flute up to my lips, I began playing my favorite composition, Death’s Remorse. When I finished playing, he stood there for a moment, listening to the last lingering notes. I always thought that Death’s Remorse was my best piece and this just seemed to confirm it.

"That was beautiful but do you always write in minor keys? I really think you write beautiful, haunting music but you should try a hand at writing happier music, you might b good at it."

"I do write happier music most of the time but that is my favorite piece."

"It looks like you need a new flute." I was surprised at the sudden change of topic. "That one’s pretty banged up. I know what, I have an old flute, friend of mine used to play. Why don’t you stop by at my place tomorrow and pick it up? Say, five or six p.m.? Is that o.k. with you?"

"I can get by with this flute, it’s still works pretty well."

"I insist. She doesn’t play anymore and it’s just picking up dust."

I looked into his eyes, to see if he was telling the truth and was surprised to find out he was. "Okay, is seven good for you? I couldn’t make it any sooner, I’m still in school."

"Seven’s fine for me. I live up on the hill. See you there tomorrow!" As he turned around, he waved back at me. Waving goodbye to him, I headed home. By the time I got to my apartment, I felt like I was going to drop dead with exhaustion. Hanging up my jacket, thinking about all that happened, I got the feeling that I knew Maxfield from somewhere…but where?

At seven o’clock, on the dot, I pulled up at the Stanton Mansion, as it’s called. Parking the car, I got out and walked up to the door. Knocking on the door, Maxfield opened the door a few moments later. "Come on in. I looked up Death’s Remorse, you signed the copy of it at Tokyo University. Welcome, Kris, to my home."

"Wow. This place is huge. I know it doesn’t seem like I have a large vocabulary right now but not too many words could describe this place accurately."

I meant to say more, but at that instant he brought out his old flute. "Here’s my flute. It’s a bit tarnished but I only needs to be shined up a bit." Handing it to me, I gave him a asking expression and started to play.

The notes were ghostly, almost like the music was playing and the note were an after thought. When the piece ended, it was like a soul put to rest after a tormented life, happy to be free of the burdens of a body. "This flute has a distinctive tone, nothing would sound truly happy on it unless you felt happy. This flute communicates the feel of the piece better than any other flute I’ve ever played." Sorrowfully, I handed it back to him. "I could never play this flute, I’m not worthy of it."

"No," he said slowly, "I think this flute fits you better than you can imagine. One of my greatest friends gave me this flute. She died a long time ago but I could never play it like she could. I don’t know why, but you play the flute exactly like she did. Please keep it, you are worthy of this flute. I insist, this flute was meant for you." Why did I tell her that? Oh Krisite, why did you have to die?

"Are you feeling okay? You looked a little lost for a sec, I thought you might pass out."

"No, I’m fine; I was just thinking about my friend. She told me to find the flute a new owner, one who could play it like her. She also told me that I should forget about her; she didn’t want me to be sad."

"Now I’m sorry for bringing up painful memories. I really don’t think I should keep this flute, your friend obviously meant a lot to you…"

"No, you must keep this flute, she would want you too. Please, keep it."

"On one condition."

"What’s that?"

"That you smile!"

"Ah, why me? Okay, I’ll smile." Giving me a grin he said, "Imagine, such a happy-looking person making me promise to smile! Have you ever smiled? Nooo. I have to smile though. What’s wrong with that?"

"Nothing! You’re just jealous! I also hate to be rude but…"

"I do have someplace I need to be right now…"

"So I’ll just leave! Problem solved! Thank you soo much for the flute!"

"No problem, you needed a new one and I had a very nice old one."

"Thank you so much again!"

After Kris left she didn’t see the evil smile that crossed "Maxfield’s" face. If she had, she would’ve recognized him from one of her dreams, the person ‘Nephlite’. "Go ahead, silly human. Soon your energy will help unleash the great power of the Negaforce! Natasha, go to work. Increase her creative energy output 10 fold!"

Five minutes later, Nephrite was puzzled. "Natasha, what has gone wrong? Report!"

"Forgive me master, but my powers don’t work on her at all. Every time I go to increase her energy and the harvest it, something stops me. I am blocked by a force more powerful than I am."

"Impossible, I sensed no power about her! She can’t be a Sailor Scout, I would’ve known. What, or rather, who could she be?" Nephrite had spent hours trying to solve the puzzle when Zoicyte made an appearance.

"What’s happened? Cat got your tongue?"

"Go away Zoicyte! I don’t need your interference right now!"

(In a haughty voice) "The High and Mighty Nephrite is having trouble getting things done right!" (In her regular voice) "What did you do wrong? Tell them your secret identity? Not even you could mess up that badly!"

"No, I haven’t messed up! I am perfectly capable of handling this myself anyway. No need for you to be here."

"Oh, I didn’t come here to bug you, I have specific orders from Queen Beryl to ask you for information. Have you seen, or met, anyone resembling Krisite? Queen Beryl herself told me to find Krisite and, ummm, bring her home. Well, have you?"

"Come to think of it, yes. A girl named Kris. I gave her Krisite’s flute by pure accident a few moments before you showed up. If you hadn’t taken so long to get here, you might’ve seen her."

"Describe ‘Kris’ to me, I want to check this out."

"Kris looks exactly like Krisite except for one thing, if she is Krisite, she’s much more powerful than she was. She seems to enjoy her life here on earth and Queen Beryl would have to expend a lot of energy to revive her memories. Energy which she doesn’t have to spare."

"Why don’t you send one of your servants to drain her energy until she is unconscious? That would weaken her enough that Queen Beryl could revive her memories with the least amount of energy."

"I’ve already tried Zoicyte! I have instilled my servant, Natasha, in her. Natasha has tried many times to drain her of her energy but has been unsuccessful. Natasha’s own words were, ‘Something powerful is blocking me, more powerful than me.’ Tell me Zoicyte, if I can’t drain her of her energy, who can? Jedite was the only one to master the technique of doing a quick drain. Malachite uses humans to do his dirty work. You have a vengeful streak for the Sailor Scouts and only attack them. Who could drain her energy?"

"Queen Beryl already knows this. She’s known that alone we could never drain her. Queen Beryl has given us all orders to work together and drain her to the point either her memories will be given back to her or Queen Beryl can revive them. We ALL have to work together or we’ll all suffer the same fate as Jedite has."

With those parting words, Zoicyte returned to her search with a new clue.

Raye was walking home from school when she suddenly felt very ill. I’ve got a bad feeling. I only feel like this when some evil is being committed. I’ve got to tell the Sailor Scouts! "Luna? Can you hear me?? It’s Raye. I’ve got a bad feeling right now. I think I’m going to be sick if it doesn’t stop! Get Serena right now, the Sailor Scouts are needed."

"Raye, do you have any sense of where this is happening? If you could give us a direction then I can meet both of you there." Ami asked. "North? Like near the Stanton Mansion? I don’t believe it! I’ll meet you there. Ami out"

"Zoicyte, the Sailor Scouts have tracked you here! Imbecile! How could you do that? Now you’re going to have to FAKE a battle with me. Go ahead, hit me with all you’ve got!"

**************

"Zoisite," Sailor Mars said, "You’re going down for that! In the name of Mars I will defeat you!"

"You made a fatal mistake Zoicyte, hurting innocent people. In the name of the planet Mercury, I will defeat you!"

"I am Sailor Moon! Champion of Justice! Defender of Love! In the name of the Moon I will right wrongs and triumph over Evil! And that means you!"

Once Sailor Moon had completed her speech they all said together, "We’re the Sailor Scouts!"

"It’s not you I’m interested in, it’s someone else entirely. You might remember her, the General Krisite. If you find her, and you will, you might want to run for cover, she’s never been defeated! So long Sailor Moon!" With those words Zoicyte threw a ball of fire at Sailor Moon. At the same instant, Sailor Moon had a klutz attack and fell flat on her face. "Ow! That hurts! Waaaahhhhh!"

"Dang," Sailor Mars said, " Zoisite’s gone! Sailor Moon, get your act together! Pay attention!"

"Sailor Mars, why do you have to be so mean to me? Waaaahhhhh! You’re always so mean to me!"

"You guys, I need some help here! He’s unconscious and has lost quite a bit of energy. What do you think she meant by ‘General Krisite’?"

"Why don’t we ask Luna when we get home?" Sailor Moon said. "She might know."

"Ugh! He’s heavy!"

"He looks so familiar!"

"Stop those lips and LIFT!"

"Why don’t we just leave him on the floor or something? Wouldn’t it be odd to wake up in your bed when you know you were down-stairs? If we carry him up, should we also leave him a note saying Zoicyte attacked him and sign it?"

"Sailor Moon, cut the sarcasm! Let’s just leave him here."

"He’s beginning to wake up, let’s book it!"

Back at the temple…

"Luna," Serena asked, "Do you remember a General named Krisite? Before Zoicyte left she said that we soon would be meeting General Krisite. Luna, what’s wrong??"

"General Krisite was a member of the Star Kingdom which the Negaverse over-run and destroyed. Krisite fought till the kingdom was captured and Queen Beryl noticed she had potential, a lot of potential. She ordered all of her Generals to capture her, alive I might add, so she could be trained as a General. She regained some of her memories after a fierce battle and transported to the Moon. During her time on the Moon, she became friends with your father, the King of the Sun Kingdom. She created a false persona and pretended that she was one of the daughters of the Star’s King. Before Queen Beryl’s last attack on the Moon, she told Queen Serenity who she really was and asked for forgiveness. When Queen Beryl came and saw that Krisite was fighting against her fellow Generals, Beryl killed her personally. Queen Serenity felt that it would be better for Kris, as she called herself, to be reborn on Earth. I was told to make sure that the Negaverse never got their hands on her again. Queen Serenity also told me something else but I can’t remember it right now, something about another Sailor…"

"Hi guys! Sorry we’re late we ran into some problems. More specifically, Nephrite was trying to drain someone’s energy and he couldn’t! The girl looked him in the eyes while we stood there, ready to help, and she said, ‘God-Dammit All! Why do dreams have to be so realistic? Go to Hell and stay there!’ and then she stormed off. Isn’t that odd?" Lita said.

The color drained from Luna and Artemis when they heard this. Serena, Raye and Ami all acted as if the world was going to come to an end when they heard the news. "What’s wrong guys, you all look as white as a sheet. What did we miss?"

"Lita, Mina, let me tell you a story…"

Once Luna finished her tale about a General named Krisite, Mina and Lita were both very quiet. "So you think the Negaverse knows who she really is now? Luna, answer me. Luna, do WE know who Krisite is in this life?"

"No Artemis, we don’t but I bet I do know who she really is. There’s only one person that could possibly fit her description, Kris! She lives in Darien’s apartment flat and he’s met her before. Darien has become friends, of a sort, with her. Her told me he thought she was familiar but I couldn’t remember then. She lives in room 205. Come-on Artemis, we’re going to see if I’m right." Luna and Artemis ran straight for Kris’s apartment as fast as four feet could carry them.

"Do you think Zoicyte knows?"

Raye’s question was answered by four nods of affirmation.

"What are we waiting for then? Mars Star POWER!"

"Venus Star POWER!"

"Mercury Star POWER!"

"Jupiter Star POWER!"

"Moon Crystal POWER!"

"SCOUT POWER!" they yelled in unison.

"Come-on," Sailor Mars said, "They might need us now!"

At Kris’s apartment…

"So, this is where ‘Kris’ lives. No wonder she can’t get to classes on time, she probably can’t see her alarm clock. Sailor Moon, your room looks cleaner than hers does." Luna was busy walking around Kris’s apartment, looking for any sign that she was Krisite. As soon as Luna jumped up onto the kitchen table, she saw a note was scribbled on a piece of paper. Going out to park. Be back after nine, see you later Ryan! Kris
"Scouts, she’s gone out to the park! Quickly, we must reach her before anyone else does!" Racing off in the direction of the park, Luna feared it would be too late once again…

They were just leaving the Star Kingdom’s Reception area when they heard the sound of steel-on-steel. Racing toward the direction of the horrid noise, they arrived at the same time Zoicyte sent Kris head-over-heels against the wall. Watching her slide down the wall, they made a move to help the fallen Commander. In a swirl of mist, Nephlite stood next to the fallen form of Kris. Picking her up, he turned to the assembled delegation from the Moon Kingdom. "Say good-bye to Kris because you won’t see her again!" Disappearing as quickly as he appeared, he took Kris, the Commander of the Star Kingdom’s Armies, back to the Negaverse. All that could be heard after Zoicyte left was their combined laughter ring in the hall…

When the Scouts and their Guardians arrived at the park, they heard a very familiar sound, Zoicyte’s laughter and another’s scream of rage. Braking into the clearing, the Scouts stood dumbfounded while they watched the scene unfold before them…

Zoicyte had an ice-blade in her hands and she was trying to land a blow on Kris. Kris on the other hand was attacking Zoicyte using kicks and punches whenever she got the chance.
